Nothing spooky about Friday the 13th

Who said Friday the 13th was unlucky and spooky? There was no bad luck as the good weather continued for another round of the Have-a-Go and Kiwi cricket Friday night matches at Birkenhead City Cricket Club on November 13.

The sun shone throughout and things started really coming together.  We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night. The only thing going wrong was the NZ v Aus scoreboard on the TV inside the club.

With about 100 kids playing on the top field it takes some mustering, so thanks to all the parents, helpers and coaches – we couldn’t do it without you.

You may have noticed the hooter being sounded at 5.30. This is to remind you the games should start then. With the little ones, it’s best to get things going on time or there’ll be tears!

We noticed lots of people tucking into the sausage sizzle and a fair few pizzas arriving – great idea. If you know anyone at Domino’s or Pizza Hut perhaps we could organise them to sponsor us or cut us a deal for Friday night pizzas? (Note: the Coffee Guy wasn’t getting enough custom on Friday nights, so if it’s tea or coffee you want, please head to the clubrooms for the regular stuff.)

Anyway, the kids all seemed to have fun, and it was a relaxing way to spend a Friday – great to have the weekend free.

If you have any feedback about improvements or are able to help in any way, club manager Sabina would love to hear from you (office@birkenheadcricket.co.nz). But also a big thanks to everyone already helping – scorers, coaches, managers, barbecue cookers, tuckshop sellers. We couldn’t do it without you.

Here’s a few pics from the night. If you would like to add names to the players please email them to denisemontgomery.cricket@gmail.com and let her know.
