Midget cricket moves to Friday night

For the 2015-2016 season Birkenhead City Cricket Club has decided, after consultation with parents, to move its midget cricket competition to Friday nights.

Takapuna trialled this very successfully last season.

Games for both Have-a-Go and and Kiwi Cricket, games will be played on the bottom field and will start at 5.30pm, likely finishing at 7.15pm. The rules for the games remain the same. That is each team has 8 players and  the 24-over games are played with a soft ball.

In the Have-a-Go grade (school years 1 and 2), children bat with a partner for six 4-ball overs. Each child bowls three overs each. Players move around the field at the end of each over to try different positions, including wicket keeper.

For Kiwi Cricket (school years 3-4), the games are the same, at 24 overs, but each child bowls four 6-ball overs.

Food and drinks will be available in the clubrooms and all teams will help with sausage sizzles and fund-raising through the season. The tuck shop will also be open.
