Match Report – BCCC Y6 McConnochie v ECB Y6 Rebels

Fine sunny conditions, a low and slow wicket with short boundaries and a fast outfield – perfect conditions for a great contest.

BCCC won the toss and elected to field first, immediately applying pressure and restricting ECB to just 24 runs in the opening 10 overs with wickets to Vivek Patel, Nathan Lyndon and Spike Ruffell. ECB were able to consolidate and exploited the short boundaries to put on a 65 runs in the next 10 overs, despite losing steady wickets to Harry Carter, Ethan Cordes and Rhys Victor. BCCC held strong in the closing overs, restricting ECB to just 17 runs and picking off the tail with wickets to Taine Victor and Brandon D’Souza and a runout to Jeremy Ballard.

Chasing 107 to win BCCC made heavy work at the start, losing wickets regularly to end up teetering at 41/7 after the opening 10 overs. An excellent late innings partnership of 61 runs between Harry (31*) and Travis Gower (27*) steadied the ship and laid the platform for a comfortable victory with 6 overs to spare.

It was an excellent team win in the end, and highlighted the value of disciplined bowling, energy in the field and patience and application with the bat.

Congratulations to joint POD winners – Ethan Cordes for an excellent bowling effort (2-0-14-1) and Harry Carter for a captain’s knock of 31* (6×4). Special mention too for Travis Gower with an excellent knock of 27* (5×4). Well done. – STEVE RUFFELL, SHAF ASIF,  COACHES
